Romsey - a cool place to live at any age

Romsey - a cool place to live at any age

The market town of Romsey is situated in the county of Hampshire and was once rated among the top 30 coolest places to live in Britain by reviewers from the Times, something that might be down to it having something to offer all ages.

For young businesspeople, the fact that it is only seven miles from Southampton and 11 miles from Winchester is sure to be a boon, as it makes the daily commute bearable. Indeed, it is also on a fast link to London via railway and the motorway network, so even travelling further afield should not feel like too much of a burden.

Those who prefer not to travel at all can still pursue excellent careers thanks to several industrial trading estates and the presence of tech firms Roke Manor Research and IBM nearby.

Anyone considering buying properties in Romsey who have children will also be interested in education and the town doesn't disappoint in this department either, with Cupernham Infant School, Halterworth Primary School and The Romsey School among those in the vicinity for various age groups.

In terms of attractions and things to do at weekends, the first thing most people head for when moving here is the Norman abbey at the centre of town, which provides a reminder of Romsey's origins in the Middle Ages - and the era's Black Death, which decimated the population in the 14th century.

King John's House and its four ghosts, the stately home of Broadlands and children's theme park Paultons Park are other local must-sees.

Those who enjoy eating out and socialising will find plenty of restaurants, coffee shops and pubs offering a range of dishes and drinks to suit all palates, so there should be lots of opportunities to put the world to rights while enjoying a hearty meal.

And finally, new residents of Romsey won't want to miss the annual Agricultural & Horse Show, which has been visiting every year since 1842 and occurs on the second Saturday of September.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801767442-ADNFCR
